I loved 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak and I'm now reading it to my two year old (who also loves the Very Hungry Caterpillar). All the Moomin books were favourites with me too, and I've just named my second daughter after the author. Modern books - The Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's Child are fantastic.
